Representations of the braid group and arithmetic groups
Jeudi, 22 Juin, 2017 - 14:00
Résumé :
The Artin braid group on n strands occurs naturally in many different parts of mathematics, as a mapping class group, as the fundamental group of the space of degree n monic polynomials with distinct roots, hypergeometric functions etc. The "Burau representation" is a natural representation of this group and in this talk, a sketch of the proof of the arithmeticity of its image will be presented.
We also discuss background material on algebraic groups and arithmetic groups.
