Coherent Groups
Friday, 2 October, 2015 - 10:30
Résumé :
A group is coherent if every finitely generated subgroup is finitely presented. I will survey what is known about coherent groups and some related properties. All known 2-dimensional coherent groups are fundamental groups of 2-complexes with a property (nonpositive immersions) shared by spines of aspherical 3-manifolds with nonempty boundary. I will attempt to give a picture of what is going on here and share some optimistic expectations.
