You are given 12 red snooker balls, all identical except for one. The one oddball is different only in weight, perhaps heavier, perhaps lighter than the others. You are also given a balance with which you can compare groups of balls. Can you design a scheme by which you can tell which ball is the oddball using the scale no more than 3 times?
