Sur l'île de la Dichotomie, il n'y a que deux familles: les Duvrai (qui disent toujours la vérité) et les Dufaux (qui mentent systématiquement). Chacun des 400 habitant de l'île est soit chasseur, soit pêcheur, soit fonctionnaire.

C'est pourquoi le formulaire de recensement, retourné à l'administration par tous les adultes, ne comporte que les trois questions:
1. Etes-vous chasseur ?
2. Etes-vous pêcheur ?
3. Etes-vous fonctionnaire ?

300 habitant ont répondu "oui" à la première question, 200 à la deuxième, 150 à la troisième.

On Dichotomy Island, there are only two families: the McTruth's (who always tell the truth) and the O'Lyer's (who lie systematically). Every one of the 400 inhabitants of the island is either a hunter, a fisherman or a mailman.

Quite appropriately, the census forms (filed by everyone on the island) has only three questions:
1. Are you a hunter?
2. Are you a fisherman?
3. Are you a mailman?

300 inhabitants answered 'yes' to the first question, 200 to the second, and 150 to the third.
