In this talk, I will discuss a generalization of Selberg's lemma on the existence of torsion free, finite index
subgroups. There are a few geometric applications of that I will discuss on the geometry of cusp cross sections of rank-1,
locally symmetric manifolds. The proof of the main algebraic result is elementary, requiring only linear algebra and basis
p-adic analysis.
